Xinhua:Ready for Tianjin Summer Davos

As 2008 Summer Davos will be held in two months from new on, all preparation works are under smooth progress. The rebuilding and expansion project of Binhai International Convention & Exhibition Center, covering an area of 120,000 sq m, is completed currently.

It is learned from the first press conference for Tianjin Summer Davos held last afternoon that in order to hold a high-level and safe international forum with characteristics, Tianjin established a leading group and 14 work groups for Summer Davos, making considerate work schemes and dividing the preparation work into 128 section and 240 subsections for carrying them out one by one.

At present, The rebuilding and expansion project of Binhai International Convention & Exhibition Center, covering an area of 120,000 sq m, is completed, and all preparation works such as accommodation, catering, security, traffic management, foreign propaganda and media service, volunteer recruitment and training are under progress and kept on improving.

During the forum, Tianjin will hold some influential activities such as the opening ceremony of Sino-Singapore Eco-city and the startup ceremony for the assembly of A320 FAL and invite some participants to take a train of Beijing-Tianjin Intercity Express in person.

As the sponsor of Summer Davos, André Schneider, Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer of World Economic Forum, said 900 CEOs from different industries and 75 countries and mayors from 30 cities had signed up the forum.

Entitled “the new round of growth tide”, 2008 Summer Davos will be held in Tianjin from December 25 to December 27. It is predicted that more than 1,500 entrepreneurs, politicians and scholars from 70-odd countries and regions were present at the annual meeting. Then they will hold discussions themed on “economic globalization”, “risk control”, “urbanization process”, “scientific innovation”, “environmental protection” and “growing China”. Beside themed activities, we will also branch out a series of economic and trade negotiations and business inspection activities.

Founded by Professor Klaus Schwab in 1971, the World Economic Forum, with the aim at studying problems occurred in the economic field of the world and promoting international economic exchange and cooperation, is growing to be an influential forum worldwide, thus reputed as “Economic United Nations”. As it is held in Davos, a small Swiss town every January, it is also known as “Davos Forum”.
