Not long ago, the commencement of constructingthe 358-meter tall building “TianjinBee Comb” signifies the progress of establishingthe most remarkable area in Binhai NewArea—Xiangluo Wan Commercial Area. Thisproject is in the process of overall construction.Tianjin has started to build the 16 projectsfrom 33 investment projects within the XiangluoWan area. There will be over 20 projectsundertaking construction within this year.

As the starting point of the central commercialarea in the Binhai New Area, Xiangluo Wan is3.2 square kilometers in size, opposite to theHaihe Bund Park to the north. It is next to theYujia Pu Commercial Area to the east. Alongside,there is 1.5 km coastal line in this area.

This commercial area is mainly used for buildingthe provincial representative offices andR&D centers or commercial facilities for theState-owned enterprises in the Binhai NewArea. There involves 38 projects in the overallplanning, among which there is the tallestbuilding 380-meter Fuli Plaza.

There have been 33 provinces and enterprisessigning the contract with Tianjin, including InnerMongolia, Hebei, Shanxi, China MinmetalsCo., Sino Steel Co., etc.. The construction areawill be 3.67 million square meters with the totalinvestment of RMB 27.5 billion yuan.

Along with the initial program, Xiangluo WanCommercial Area also puts their efforts on theinfrastructure construction. They have completedthe construction of main roads includingBinhe West Rd, and other supporting facilitieslike street lamps, landscape green and drainagesystem have been installed in this area.The remedy construction of Haimen Bridge isin the progress. The west bridge approach ofHaihe Bridge has almost completed, while theeast part is in the progress of underwater stakeinstalling. Haihe Bridge will be available in 2009for transportation.

The 400,000 square meters Xiangluo WanPhase-1 project commenced in September2007. It is estimated that the whole project willbe completed in 2011. By that time, this areawill be the new landmark in the Binhai NewArea. There will be 38 skyscrapers in this commercialarea, which looks like the new horizonline near the sea. It will be the commercialcircle with the function of business, finance,and tourism, which will strengthen the powerof the Binhai New Area.

Approved by the State Council, this centralcommercial area is one of the eight functionalareas in Binhai New Area. It consists of sixregions, including Yujia Pu Financial Area,Xiangluo Wan Commercial Area, Jiefang RdCommercial Area, Dagu Ecological New Area,International Shipping Center, and Blue WhaleInternational Community. The overall area involvedis 20 square kilometers.
