Following Tianjin Shuanggang and Qingguanggarbage incineration and power-generationprojects, Shuangkou garbage power-generationplant was put into operation recently, whichsymbolizes the realization of scientific disposalof urban household garbage in Tianjin.

Situated in Jinnan Economic DevelopmentZone of Tianjin, Shuanggang garbage incinerationpower-generation plant is the first suchplant in Tianjin and the biggest one in China.

What meet people’s eyes when they stepinto this plant are the clean roads and neatlytrimmed trees and mowed lawns. Nobodycan believe such a beautiful and quiet placeis a garbage disposal plant where hundreds ofgarbage transportation vehicles come in andout and 1,200 tons of garbage is disposed hereevery day.

By incinerating garbage, this plant powershomes and factories. It well solves the garbagepollution problem in Tianjin. Together with theurban garbage disposal facilities, it forms a garbagedecontamination system which enablesthe decontamination rate of urban householdgarbage in Tianjin to reach 81 percent.

At present, the daily household garbage generatedfrom Heping, Hexi and Jinnan Districtsamounts to about 420,000 tons, accountingfor up to one fourth of that from all 18 districtsand counties of Tianjin. All the garbage now issent to Shuanggang Garbage Incineration andPower-Generation Plant.

In 2007, the Shuanggang garbage incinerationplant disposed 1,200 tons of garbage perday, with the yearly decontaminated, recycledand reused household garbage amounting to400,000 tons. That capacity generated electricityas much as 101 million kwh. All the operationindicators reached historical record.

During recent years, guided by the principles ofscientific development, Tianjin actively meetsthe call of resources conservation and constructionof an energy-efficient and environmental-friendly society. Garbage power generationis a new try by Tianjin, an old industrialcity, to solve the problem of energy restraintand environmental pollution. Presently, garbagepower plants can only be found in someeconomically developed cities and provincessuch as Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin and Zhejiang.

Located near to Shuangkou garbage landfillsite in Anguang Village, Shuangkou Town, BeichenDistrict of Tianjin, Shuangkou GarbageIncineration and Power-Generation Plant hasintroduced from the USA four Caterpillar gasengine generators with 5,520 kw installed capacity. In the finished first phase of the project, one gas engine generator operates, with theannual power generation reaching 8 millionkwh, connected to the North China power grid.

Situated in Beichen District of Tianjin, andinvested by Tianjin Like Environmental ProtectionCo., Ltd, Qingguang Garbage Incinerationand Power-Generation Plant incinerate garbageto generate power. With the installed capacityof two 6,000-kw power generators, thedesigned garbage disposal capacity per dayreaches 600 tons.

Cities in China are now troubled by the garbagepollution across the city. Generating electricity from household garbage not onlysolves the problem of household garbage disposal, and benefits the environment. It alsohelps save energy.

According to Shuanggang Garbage Incinerationand Power-Generation Plant, by adopting theadvanced smoke purification technology in theprocess of power generation, the harmful gasproduced by household garbage incinerationin the plant is properly disposed, meeting EUemission standard of the European Union. Theold ways of disposing garbage by land-filling anddumping in the open air, which severely damagedthe air and environment, are replaced.

In addition, following the circulative economyprinciple of “reduce, recycle, and reuse”, thisplant burns garbage to generate power, withits remains to make bricks and waste heat towarm houses. The only emission is steam. Inthis way, a complete circulative economic chaintakes shape.
