Zhou Enlai and Deng Yingchao are two greatrole models in their generation. Zhou Enlai &Deng Yingchao Memorial Hall plays an educationalrole with its multiple functions and hasreceived more than 4 million visitors from bothhome and abroad. It has become an importantbase to commemorate these two greatpersons, learn Chinese modern history andconduct literary research.

Located in the scenic area of Tianjin Water Park,Zhou Enlai & Deng Yingchao Memorial Hall covers70 thousand square meters with a constructionarea of 10.5 thousand square meters. Themain buildings are dignified and simple. Outsidethe hall, Memorial Square, giant granite statue“to behold a high mountain or a great man withawe”, pavilion, memorial forest, grass and flowersbecome mutual background with the mainbuilding. The ethereal environment and solemnatmosphere highlight the elegant demeanor ofthese two great persons.

Zhou Enlai and Deng Yingchao were great proletarianrevolutionaries, statesmen, firm Marxistsand outstanding leaders of the party andthe country as well. They spent their young agein Tianjin. They met, knew and loved as well aswent on the revolutionary road with each otherin Tianjin where they regarded as their secondhometown. They left wills to scatter their ashesafter death in the mountains and rivers of themotherland, especially the Haihe River in Tianjin.

In order to reminisce the great achievementsand noble qualities of Zhou Enlai and DengYingchao, Tianjin Municipal Party Committeeand Tianjin Municipal Government decidedto report to the CPC Central Committee forapproval that Zhou Enlai & Deng Yingchao MemorialHall would be completed and open tothe public on February 28, 1998, before the anniversaryZhou Enlai’s birth of a hundred years.Collections in the Hall are rich and the value ofheritages is precious. Within the Hall, there aremore than 10,000 pieces artifacts, documents,photographs and other materials, as well asmore than 100 pieces of treasures, includingthe ashes urn that contained the ashes ofthese two great persons and the IL-14 planeand Jim car that had taken Zhou Enlai to travelall over the nation and many foreign countriesas well as their correspondences.

The main memorial hall consists of ViewingHall, Life Hall and Special Plane Hall to fullydemonstrate the great achievements and loftycharacter demeanor of the two great personsin their generation.

In the frontispiece of Viewing Hall, there is awhite marble statue of Zhou Enlai and DengYingchao, named as “deep love full of the riversand mountains”. The background of the mainstatue is a huge wall-hanging named “broadsea and smooth cloud”. On both sides, theembossed wall was engraved some historicalpictures reflecting the May 4th Movement, theNanchang Uprising, Red Army’s Long March,the Xi’an Incident, the founding ceremony ofPeople’s Republic of China, and the nationalconstruction as well.

There are 9 parts in Life Hall according to historicalperiods and subjects, namely “charismaof a great man(woman), the pursuit of truth,saving China, managing the State affairs, leadingwomen’s movement, turning the tide, inheritinggreat cause, living forever, and the lastwish”. Through 463 historic photos, 700 piecesof cultural relics, literature and other means ofdisplay, this hall comprehensively and systematicallydemonstrates the magnificent and brilliantlife of Zhou Enlai and Deng Yingchao.

IL-14 aircraft numbered as No 678 is displayedin Special Plane Hall. It was a present that theSoviet Union gave Premier Zhou Enlai in August,1957. Since 1957 to the mid-1960s, ZhouEnlai went to many places at both home andaboard by this plane.

February of this year, Zhou Enlai & DengYingchao Memorial Hall spent one year and ahalf to complete the reconstruction project ofthe Xihua Hall in Zhongnanhai. “Xihua Hall” wasbuilt in accordance with the layout and styleof Xihua Hall in Zhongnanhai in 1960s by theproportion of 1:1. It was an office and residenceplace of Zhou Enlai and Deng Yingchao, afterthe People’s Republic of China was founded.In May 2008, the Zhou Enlai & Deng YingchaoMemorial Hall was named as the national levelmuseum by the State Administration of CulturalHeritage.
