On Aug. 1, “Approaching Davos-- the activity of selecting citizen representatives for 2010 Tianjin Summer Davos”, jointly planned by Preparatory Office of Tianjin Summer Davos Forum and Tianjin People’s Broadcasting Station, will be formally launched. It is the first time to have citizen representatives present on Davos Forum in its forty years’ history, which will also become a new highlight of Davos this year.

Summer Davos Forum, a global summit jointly proposed by World Economic Organization and Chinese government. Since 2007, it was held in September each year in China. Tianjin is selected as the site of Summer Davos this year, which is a global event attracting the attention of the whole city as well as those who concern about the development worldwide.

This selection activity aims to make Davos Forum, the high-end economic forum closer to the general public. The selection of citizen representatives provides an opportunity to make World Economy Forum known to more citizens in Tianjin, and also present to the whole world the high quality of Tianjin people at the same time, thus building a good city image of Tianjin, and further strengthening the relationship between Davos Forum and Tianjin.

After being launched on Aug. 1, the selection activity will be carried out in four phases, namely registration, interview, primary selection and final selection, lasting for more than one month.

Basic conditions of applicant include: permanent resident of Tianjin (including migrants and expatriates working year-round in Tianjin); have certain contribution and influence in their respective areas; have good communication skills and certain English competence. Registration can either be made by the applicant in person or be recommended by organization. The deadline of personal registration is Aug. 10, 2010.

The working committee office of this selection activity will choose 75 applicants for further interview, among which 25 will be selected as candidates of selective trials. Then it is the “10 out of 25” primary selection and “5 out of 10”final selection. In the selection trials, five winners will be chosen through the sections of theme lecture and subject debates to attend 2010 Tianjin Summer Davos Forum as “citizen representatives”.

These five selected citizen representatives will attend the opening and closing ceremonies of 2010 Tianjin Summer Davos Forum, a grand cultural banquet held by Tianjin municipal government, and visit Tianjin Summer Davos Village, and be given access to the senior officials of “World Economic Forum”. In addition, certificates of honor will be issued by Preparatory and Coordinating Office of 2010 Tianjin Summer Davos Forum to these five citizen representatives.
