The Binhai International Convention and Exhibition Centre is located at the east part of TEDA Fashion Square. The main body is two-storey building. The first-phase project of the exhibition center was completed at the end of 2003, with the second-phase construction finished in June, 2008. The Binhai International Convention and Exhibition Centre occupies a land area of 169,000 square meters, with construction space being 120,000 square meters. It is the largest and most well-equipped exhibition in Tianjin, with the most functions and the best specialized facilities. Not only commodity exhibitions and trade negotiations, but also large-scale meetings, banquets, rallies, and celebrations could be held here. As the biggest and most functional modern exhibition center of Tianjin, the Binhai International Convention and Exhibition Centre has become a landmark architecture and a tourist spot at the Binhai New Area.
On August 1, 2008, the Binhai New Area leg of the Olympic torch relay started from Tianjin Port. The torch went through Tianjin Port, Tianjin Port Free Trade Zone, and 12 main avenues of TEDA, and then reached the last stop of the International Convention and Exhibition Centre.
In September of 2008, the Summer DAVOS Forum moved from Dalian to Tianjin Binhai New Area, with the International Convention and Exhibition Centre being the main venue.
A high-profiled international aviation and space exhibition, known as Aeromart Tianjin 2009, raised its curtain at the International Convention and Exhibition Centre of Binhai New Area in Tianjin in April, 2009. Opening a window for global aerospace and aviation companies to learn more about the Chinese market, Aeromart Tianjin 2009, also serves as a high-end platform for domestic enterprises within the segment to exchange what they have and set up potential partnerships with their international counterparts. Given the fact that the aviation and aerospace industry is growing into one of the important pillar industries of Tianjin and Binhai New Area’s robust momentum in China’s overall development layout, Aeromart has chosen the Municipality as the permanent holding place for the exhibition.
The Seventh Tianjin International Mobile Phone Industry Exposition was held in the Binhai International Exhibition Center in May, 2009, with an exhibition space of 18,000 square meters. The expo has become a platform for business negotiation, technology exchange and enterprise publicity and promotion of the industry.
It was made crystal clear in the 2009 Tianjin Municipal People’s Government Work Report that priorities should go to the Municipality’s modern service industry and exhibition business. Conferences and expos, such as PECC, Aeromart Tianjin 2009, Tianjin Trade Fair & Investment Talk, were emphasized in Work Report of the local government.
