In recent years, Binhai New Area has implemented two comprehensive supporting reform Three-Year Plans, through which the area has been further advancing reform in many sectors, including financial innovation, science & technology system, land management, foreign related economy, medical care and health, and social management innovation, creating a number of successful models for other regions across the country. On November 27, the First Session of the Second People’s Congress of Tianjin Binhai New Area was held. The government work report expressly states that the area will actively construct the pilot free trade zone in 2014 and further advance comprehensive supporting reform. After Shanghai was granted to be the first free trade zone, a few coastal cities have filed application to be followers. According to an officer in Binhai New Area, Tianjin Free Trade Zone is likely to be approved and it is only a matter of time.
