Tianjin Celebrity Teahouse, the first of its kind in the city, boasts traditional folk custom features and holds folk performances. Built in 1991, the Teahouse is located at the downtown area with a flavor of simplicity and elegance, showcasing distinctive features of Tianjin. Inside the Teahouse is a thrust stage with a round proscenium opening. Traditional handicrafts and local flavors are exhibited for sale. The Teahouse operates three branches, namely the Xinhua Road Branch, Ancient Culture Street Branch and Jinwan Plaza Branch.

　　The Teahouse was designed with the assistance of Hu Xieqing, wife of famous novelist and dramatist Lao She, and Wu Tongbin, honorary president of Tianjin Dramatist Association. Its decoration is in line with the traditional style of teahouses. Lacquered square tables, high-back chairs, carved beams, painted pillars, and palace lanterns lend the Teahouse a flavor of antiquity, elegance and solemnity. The Teahouse serves as a place for folk art celebrities to learn from each other. The plaque“名流茶馆”(Celebrity Teahouse) inscribed by famous Chinese comedian Ma Sanli, and the Chinese characters“名流”(Celebrity) inscribed by Hu Xieqing enhance its appeal; “天津名流茶馆”(Tianjin Celebrity Teahouse) inscribed by Tianjin’s former deputy mayor Shi Jian mirrors the local government’ care and support for the cultural undertakings. Folk art celebrities like Luo Yusheng, Ma Sanli, Shang Changrong, Su Wenmao, Wang Yubao, Guan Xuezeng, Wei Wenliang, Tian Lihe, Yang Shaohua and Guo Degang have all staged performances here.
