Guifaxiang Mahua (deep-fried dough twists) was invented more than 100 years ago by Liu Laoba, who added assorted stuffing between the dough twists, along with such ingredients as sweet osmanthus, sesame, crystal sugar, etc. Golden and glossy, the dough twists taste sweet and delicious. Many visitors to Tianjin would take some boxes of mahua home as gifts for their friends and family members.
