Tiankai Higher Education Innovation Park

In order to implement the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China and fulfill the important requirements of General Secretary Xi Jinping on building an important source of independent innovation and a major source of original innovation, CPC Tianjin Municipal Committee and Tianjin Municipal Government are developing the Tiankai Higher Education Innovation Park with concerted efforts, which will function as a high-quality platform to attract and gather talents and industrial resources.

Tiankai Higher Education Innovation Park is designed with “one core, two wings” that radiates over the whole city, with a planned area of approximately 69 square kilometers. The “One Core” refers to the 7.14 square kilometers area around Tiannan Medical Sector in Nankai District, which is rich in scientific and educational resources. It is the best choice to transform R&D achievements, incubate start-up enterprises, and promote innovation and entrepreneurship. For the first phase, an extension area of approximately 1.1 square kilometers with 11 innovation carriers on both sides of the central axis of Science Research West Road is designated as the pilot zone in the core area. The “Two Wings” refer to the University City area in Xiqing District and the Haihe Education Park area in Jinnan District. The Xiqing University City area is home to 5 universities at the municipal level, with a total area of approximately 25 square kilometers and an accessible area of 5.5 square kilometers. The Haihe Education Park area in Jinnan District hosts new campuses of Tianjin University and Nankai University and 9 colleges, with a total area of approximately 37 square kilometers and a usable area of 4.07 square kilometers. The Expansion Zone of the Two Wings focuses on creating a space for incubation, transformation, and industrialization, which will accommodate approximately 200,000 innovative and entrepreneurial talents.

Tiankai Higher Education Innovation Park implements a management model of overall coordination by the leadership group, specific promotion by the supervisory department, and operation and construction by the platform company. Focusing on incubating technology-based enterprises, attracting high-level talents, and creating innovative industrial clusters related to the advantageous subjects of universities, the Tiankai Higher Education Innovation Park is set to become an engine for innovation and a new growth pole, driving the city’s high-quality development.
