“Se - Jing” dance drama is one of the projects of the “Encounter-Tianjin” Creative City Art Project, which is endorsed by the Tianjin Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism, organized by Tianjin Foreign Culture Film and Media Association, and produced by Tianjin Song and Dance Theatre. “Se - Jing” brings together rich and diverse art forms in the language of dance to tell the story of cultural antiques. The dance drama is divided into 9 sections; apart from the opening section “Ru Jing” and the closing section “Cheng - Yun”, each of the other 7 sections corresponds to one cultural antique. The “Xiang Dao” section corresponds to the antique of the Emperor Xuande Copper and Gilded Gold Elephant Ears Incense Burner Censer, the “Shi Ran” section corresponds to the silk-made antiques, the “Mo Yi” section corresponds to the Han Qie Tie (calligraphy work by Wang Xizhi, one of the most influential Chinese calligraphers in Jin Dynasty), the “Huan Yong” section corresponds to the Han Dynasty Pottery Dancer Figurine; “Ning - Fang” section corresponds to the painting of Lady’s reading in her Boudoir (by Leng Mei in the Qing dynasty), the “Heng Si” section corresponds to the Sui Dynasty White-Glazed Double-Bellied Vase with Double Dragon-Shaped Handles, and “Jing Yuan” section corresponds to the painting of Landscape of the Snowy Forest (by Fan Kuan in Song dynasty). “Se - Jing” dance drama strives to show the distinctive pioneering feature of small theater. In addition to the visual and auditory experience of the traditional dance drama, “Se - Jing” brings a tactile experience through the interaction between actors and audiences, a unique olfactory experience with a live demonstration of the ancient incense ceremony in which Mr. Zong Zhaorui, an Intangible cultural heritage incense-making consultant, is invited to join the performance, and a hearing experience by adding drum and bo (a Chinese traditional instrument) in the performance, thus bringing the audience a comprehensive experience of sight, touch, smell, hearing, and soul.
