Tianjin Cultural Center,the largest public cultural facility in Tianjin,serves an important role in fostering the development and prosperity of the city's culture.Its main buildings include the Tianjin Grand Theater,the Tianjin Museum,the Tianjin Art Museum,the Tianjin Library,the Tianjin Natural History Museum,and the Tianjin Sunshine Paradise.
Tianjin Grand Theater,consisting of an opera hall,a concert hall,a small theater,and a multi-functional hall,is a comprehensive,multi-functional institution for art creation and performance.With advanced sound and lighting systems and fully automatic mechanical stage platforms,the Theater is capable of delivering various kinds of performances such as symphonies,dramas,and operas.The facade of the Theater faces a lake,with extended platforms creating extra space that serves as an open "urban stage".
Tianjin Natural History Museum, originally established as the Musée Hoangho Paiho in 1914,is one of the first recognized national-level museums,the first panoramic theme museum of natural history in China,and a popular science education center.With two branch museums,a new one in Tianjin Cultural Center on Youyi Road and the Musée Hoangho Paiho,it boasts a collection of 400,000 specimens,with over 1,400 type specimens and 1,299 rare items of the first and second classes.The Musée Hoangho Paiho,located within the campus of Tianjin Foreign Studies Univerity at 117 Machang Road,Hexi District,Tianjin,is the only century-old museum in China that remains intact and well-preserved,a ture "living fossil".
Tianjin Museum, established in 1918,houses over 210,000 works of art and 200,000 books and reference materials.The museum features three permanent exhibitions:"The Origination of Tianjin Culture","Tianjin-An Epitome of China in the Past Hundred Years",and"Selected Rare Relics".It also presents special exhibitions on caligraphy,painting,ceramics,jade,auspicious culture,collectibles in Chinese scholars'studies,and folk arts.One of the first recognized national-level museums, Tianjin Museum was awarded the title of"Most Innovative Museum in China"in 2019.
Tianjin Library, founded in 1908 as Zhili Library,is a provincial-leve public library rated as a “first-class library"by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.Consisting of four branch libraries,it boasts a large collection of 10.28 million books and documents,including 9.27 million books in Chinese and foreign languages,590,000 ancient books,192,000 bound volumes of Chinese and foreign newspapers and periodicals,and 210,000 sets of audiovisual documents.
Peking-Tianjin Campaign Memorial Museum, situated on the north bank of the Ziya River in Hongqiao District,is dedicated to commemorating the victorious Peking-Tianjin Campaign.With the Chinese characters of its name inscribed by Marshal Nie Rongzhen,the Museum,consisting of the Victory Square,the Main Exhibition Hall,the Multi-dimensional Demonstration Hall,and the Military Park,opened to the public on July 23,1997.Its permanent exhibition has six parts that depict the campaign in vivid detail.
Tianjin Art Museum, dedicated to aesthetic education and international cultural exchange,establishes itself as a collector,exhibitor,researcher,and promoter of works of modern and contemporary artists.With a floor area of 28,065 square meters,the Mus eum leads the way in meeting the various needs of exhibitions of different types and scales at home and abroad.
Tianjin Concert Hall, originally a cinema(Ping'an Cinema)built in 1922,the first of its kind in the city,acquired its name in 1956 and was transformed into a professional music venue that held large scale concerts.It was not until 2005 that efforts were made to rebuild the hall,with a brand-new Tianjin Concert Hall thus erected.A cultural landmark in Tianjin,the Hall was designed in the shape of a ship,with a golden dome sitting on top of columns and pilasters decorated with elaborate carvings,hence the name the "Golden Hall"ofTianjin.
Tiajin Binhai Cultural Center is located in the central business district of Binhai New Area.With a gross floor area of 312,000 square meters,it boasts the Binhai Art Museum,the Binhai Science and Technology Museum,the Binhai Library,the Binhai Performing Arts Center,the Citizen Activity Center,and the Cultural Gallery.The multi-functional and magnificent center has become a cultural landmark not only in Tianjin but also in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.
The National Maritime Museum of China, located in the Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-City,is the only comprehensive maritime museum in China dedicated to collections and exhibitions as well as research and education.It has established its authority as a center for the collection and protection of maritime cultural relics,for research on maritime civilizations,for the exchange and promotion of maritime culture,and for maritime experiences.Exhibitions at the museum center around "Humanity and the Sea“,providing important lessons on maritime civilizations and maritime resources.
The Memorial to Zhou Enlai and Deng Yingchao opened to the public on February 28,1998,shortly before the 100th anniversary of Zhou Enla's birthday.With the Main Exhibition Hall,the replicated Xihuating House,the Exhibition Area for Premier Zhou Enlai's official plane,and the Exhibition Area for the ship“Xinhaimen”,the Memorial is dedicated to the legacy of Zhou and Deng,two great revolutionaries who devoted their lives to their country and people.The Memorial is also nationally recognized and a 4A-rated national tourist attraction.
Tianjin Radio and Television Tower,also referred to as“Sky Tower”,is located near the southern end of Niegong Bridge,at the intersection of Zijinshan Road and Weijin South Road in Hexi District.Surrounded by a lake,the 415.2-meter-high tower is the only one in the world that stands on the water.
